COVID has changed so much in the ethos and operations of law firms. The latest disruption is in the size of offices.
At Manhattan law firm Mintz Levin, reports Bloomberg Law, all lawyers are assigned the same size - that's 150 square feet. It makes no difference if the lawyer is a prominent partner or a first-year associate.
Such an initiative will help Mintz Levin manage efficiently its commerical real estate costs. In addition, it can enhance the culture of the law firm. The message is there: Each lawyer is important for creating value at Mintz Levin.
In some ways this is a radical move for a relatively traditional industry. Office location and size had been hardened symbols of power within an organization. A spectacular view and a large size signaled that the particular lawyer had made it big.
Reflection: Will equality of office size become a trend in the law firm niche?
