"Rudy Giuliani’s PR guru Christianné Allen has finally had enough and has stepped down from her post at Giuliani Communications." - Kevin McCauley, Odwyerpr.com, August 30, 2021
Allen joined Team Rudy in 2019. That had been during the Ukraine dustup. During her time with Team Rudy she had created Giuliani's "Common Sense" podcast.
She is moving on to a startup. Taking her place is Todd Shapiro who had been the spokesperson of Lindsay Lohan's family.
Unfortunately for any public relations representative, Giuliani currently seems predisposed to self-defeating antics. Those range from consuming too much alcohol in a group where he should have kept up his guard to shaving in an airport when eating.
That's not always the way it had been. In the aftermath of 9/11 when mayor, he kept Manhattan from lapsing into paralysis. His public speaking was inspirational. And so memorable was escorting brides down the church aisle after the loved ones who originally had that honor had perished during the terrorist attacks.
Also, Giuliani had done engaging cameo roles on public television. His charm was amazing.
What happened?
One explanation is that like so many famous personalities he couldn't give up the stage. In a seminal book about that "The Hero's Farewell," Jeffrey Sonnenfeld chronicles the jarring dislocation of transitioning from being a prominent player to becoming relatively invisible.
Others who didn't seem to navigate that journey well has been former Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz. To remain in the limelight after retiring from Harvard he looped into the Trump machine.
As a result the first line of his obit will probably read lots differently than it would have been had he been able to join the rest of us as an Everyman.
