Even noble Oliva Benson is shown to have bias against blacks.
That was the "ripped from the headlines" plot line in "Law & Order SVU" last night.
The smoking gun was that when a critically injured man was found in the park, law enforcement checked the record of the black man there. Not that of the "Karen" who initially called the police, reporting that the black man's behavior was upsetting her son. Actually she had a record for filing a number of "Karen" reports.
It was after the police arrived that the vicim was discovered in the grass.
There is no happy ending to this.
The black man, although ruled innocent, loses his job. During the investigation is was uncovered that he attended 12-step program NA. His boss didn't like that. He sued NYPD, including Benson.
Noah, Oliva's son, is being teased at school because of the video of the park incident which went viral.
Oliva is interrogated by the powers that be. Her job was on the line.
The real culprit, who is white, goes free.
Encouraged by Noah, Oliva visits the park where the black man is working out. She tried to apologize. He does not accept it. However, this does not synch with reality. Given that a lawsuit had been filed, she would be instructed to have no contact with the plaintiff. In essence, by going to the park and making an apology, she is implicitly admitting wrongdoing.
The message is: The NYPD has much to learn.
