On Thursday, what's being referred to as that "monster lawsuit" had been filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York County of New York. It is "Smartmatic USA Corp, et al. v. Fox Corp, et. al." It is gunning for $2.7 billion. Here is a copy of the complaint.
Some finger that litigation as what knocked long-time business on-air personality Lou Dobbs out of the box. He has lost his job at Fox. The implications of that disruption are massive.
But as big as the move - ousting Dobbs - is one wonders if it's enough to "save" Fox. Its ratings and its influence are down. Moreover this is the post-Trump Administration for media. Everything media is in play. Also, upstart far-right competition as from Newsmax serves a more spicy menu than has Fox.
Obviously, Fox is vulnerable in myriad ways. And, does the 90-year-old leader Rupert Murdoch have what it takes to return the cable network to number-one? Simultaneously, he has to fight this lawsuit.
Meanwhile, another issue is: Will next to be forced out be Maria Bartiromo? Once a respected interpreter of Wall Street, she has lost credibility because of seeming pandering to the right. Yes, she is named in the lawsuit.
Public relations representative Bob Dilenschneider had represented Dobbs. Maybe he still does. If the latter, will the amount of business be reduced?
