"On Monday, Spotify released the first two episodes of 'Renegades: Born in the USA,' featuring the 44th president [Barack Obama] and the singer [Bruce Springsteen] of the anthemic hit name-checked in the show’s title. In 'Renegades,' which will release six subsequent episodes weekly, the two men speak intimately and expansively on topics like race, fatherhood and the painful divisions that persist in American society." - Ben Sisario, The New York Times, February 22, 2021.
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton also has a podcast. He's calling it "Why Am I Telling You This?"
And anyone who is anyone in tech tunes into the Karen Swisher's and Scott Galloway's twice-a-week podcast "Pivot."
Podcasting has become the ultimate "having a conversation" medium. Talk is easy, It feeds the ego. That's always fun. It also feels good. There is a school of thought that holds a good talk with a friend is the universal emotional and spiritual healer.
What is not fun is organizing content in textual mediums like blogs and LinkedIn. Soon enough writing will become too difficult to master. That will create a professional group of scribes like myself. But that industry could collapse if reading also becomes too difficult to master.
Also, the talk on podcasts is mobile. You can listen to it during your workout.
So, of course, legal marketers have to pitch this medium to clients, in-house or as an outside consultant. It would be so much more engaging for a lawyer to interview a few guests on the surprises U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Barrett is unleashing versus a long-form blog analysis of this pattern, also embraced by SCOTUS Chief Justice John Roberts.
Will lack of a podcast brand a lawyer as first-decade 21st century? Could be. It also could be interpreted as ducking being transparent. Writing provides too many linguistic structures to hide inside.
What makes for an effective podcast? Here is the article I published on O'Dwyer PR. Read it before that skill - reading - atrophies.
