When the results of the 2020 Census are final, what could happen is that New York State could lose one of its seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, reports New York Post.
It's well-known that for years that the East Coast state has been losing population. The reasons had ranged from the high cost of living, along with taxes, to weather, worsened by climate change. But, COVID-19 and the unemployment fallout from the pandemic have accelerated the flight out of the state.
From July 2019 through July 2020, for example, the state lost 126,355 people. Actually, it lost more of its population than any other state in the nation. In second place on that is Illinois.
If NY loses a seat, it will left with 26 seats. That's fewer then the number of seats controlled by Florida. And that means that NY loses some of its power.
