"McDonald’s Corp. general counsel and executive vice president Jerry Krulewitch has retired at the suggestion of his doctors after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, according to a securities filing from the fast food giant." - Ruiqui Chen, Bloomberg Law, October 16, 2020.
A search is being conducted for Jerry Krulewitch's successor. During the interim his duties are being done by U.S. general counsel Mahrukl Hussain.
So, yes, there is a job opening.
What's the pay?
Well, during the COVID-19 crisis, Krulewitch took a 25% reduction in compensation. Back in 2019, his base salary was $642,500. The total compensation was $3.25 million.
That's less than the five-million-plus some partners earn in BigLaw. That means transitioning from BigLaw to in-house at McDonald's entails a pay cut.
But the power and influence could be extraordinary. Like all businesses in the fast food loop as a result of the pandemic, the corporation faces myriad legal issues. The lawyer who takes the job could oversee a time of seismic change. His or her name could go down in history - both legal and businss.
