On this evening's ABC News, David Muir positioned and packaged the Amtrak story with his usual sophistication and restraint.
There was no judgment - like, questioning the wisdom of many GOP members of Congress traveling together in this time of political polarization and terrorism.
There also was no speculation. Muir didn't introduce probable or way-out explanations for why a garbage truck was on the train tracks.
Even if those inside the truck contend the vehicle had become lodged on the rails, that still wouldn't rule out possible premeditated foul play. Or, even terrorism. After all, there is such an entity as the suicide terrorist.
Muir was buttoned-down.
But, for some of us, the Amtrak's crash triggered all sorts of conspiracy theories.
Baby Boomers like myself still have not forgiven the powers that be or ourselves for allowing the murder of John F. Kennedy to be interpreted as a crazed act of a politically confused lone gunman.
Meanwhile, the GOP should take a hard look at the naive decision to travel together to a retreat at Greenbrier.
