In America, founded by self-righteous Puritans, the first step in a comeback is to admit one's human myopia. In that humble state, one is then open for enlightenment.
Former CIA head David Petraeus began that journey back. As CBS reports, Petraeus wrote in a letter that he royally screwed up. Society can rejoice that this human being recognizes his frailty.
The next step is that he must suffer, in a public way, for his sins.

Comeback? Are you kidding? Maybe if he repays all the taxpayer money he so extravagantly spent (use of "his" plane for his girlfriend in Afghanistan), then we can consider a comeback. He is being advised by high-priced attorneys and PR counsel - probably on the taxpayer dime - of what he should do. Does anyone really believe he is sincere? For now, no. He needs to leave public life.
