The tragedy of 9/11, 2001 seems light years away. Since then, much of the nation has suffered severely in the worst economic downturn since The Great Depression. We all know those who have lost jobs, businesses, and houses and still haven't bounced back.
So, it's a jolt to be brought back to liabilities rooted in that terrorist attack. In Manhattan, reports Bloomberg, U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein is allowing the lawsuit filed in 2008 by the World Trade Center Properties to go to trial.
The plaintiff had owned the twin towers. It is suing American Airlines and United Continental Holdings for alleged negligence in allowing the terrorists with box-cutters to board the airplanes. Let's hope there's a settlement. This is one trial the nation can do without.
