Here is the normal schedule for briefing in the California Supreme Court. For the lead paint companies which requested the review of the contingency ruling by the appeals court, the time starts to run from July 23.
Under Rule 8:520, the petitioners' opening brief is due 30 days from July 23. Respondents' brief is due 30 days after that. Then the petitioners' reply brief 20 days after that. Amicus briefs - for both sides - are due 30 days after our reply brief is filed. Then the parties have 20 days to file responses to the amicus briefs.
All of these deadlines may be extended by court order, but not by stipulation, unlike in the court of appeal.
