Today, Drudge is back to its digital tabloid roots. This time it's a scary headline about Iran. Actually, any headline about Iran potentially could raise world angst.
The new U.S. president had decided to get tough with Iran after it conducted a ballistic missile test at the end of January. Donald Trump informed Iran it was playing with fire (no pun intended at the time.)
In response, Iran told the U.S. that it could anticipate "a strong slap on the face" if it does something dumb such as not adequately assessing its (Iran's) defense systems. Here is the media coverage Drudge links to.
However, that phrase "slap in the face" seems almost cartoonish. We think of the old movies in which the tall sophisticate with the long pageboy hairdo hanging over one eye slaps her male companion's face and then, for good measure, throws a drink in it.
After so much military, economic, political and cultural turmoil post-9/11, it's difficult for us Everyman and Everywoman to get a good scare on.
Perhaps that is why we are flocking to films such as "Doctor Strange" and "John Wick Chapter Two." We need an artificial scare. So much so that there will likely be a "Doctor Strange 2" and a "John Wick 3."
If some foreign government invades my small town in Ohio and they take me away, I ask one thing: Those left behind, care for my four-footed son LOV. He can't be without his crunchy chicken treats from Dollar General on Mahoning Avenue. Take two lefts from my apartment.
