For-hire drivers are struggling in New York City (NYC).
In 2018, seven have committed suicide.
As the New York Post reports, some of those at Luna's memorial blamed the suicides on the Taxi & Limo Commission. They contend they are not doing enough to ease the economic burdens on for-hire drivers.
Meanwhile, the for-hire drivers are, in turn, being blamed for increased traffic problems in NYC. At one time, those needing public transportation would have taken the subway or the bus. That wouldn't add more vehicles on the roads.
Now, with convenient affordability services such as Uber those who have to go from point A to point B will get there via a for-hire driver. And each of those for-hire drivers adds one more vehicle to NYC traffic.
