This is not a new story: A business caught in the middle of the market fails. Those at the top and those at the bottom could be thriving.
The latest version of this is law firm Archer Norris which filed for bankruptcy this week. Here are more details from Joe Patrice at Abovethelaw.com.
About 124 employees, including lawyers, will lose their jobs by mid-September.
The mid-market firm was California based, with 4 locations. It had about 70 lawyers.
This is a warning to all businesses which aren't differentiated from the competition. That also applies to professionals who don't provide their current and potential employers/customers/clients with what others can't.
Most of seasoned professionals I coach find themselves worried about losing their source of income or not finding one after a period of unemployment haven't figured out how to position and package themselves in the unique way. Essentially they present themselves in a generic manner. Generics aren't selling in the 21st century.
