On Abovethelaw.com, lawyer-journalist Kathryn Rubino informs us what the two have designated as must-haves to be nominated. This information has been derived from Leo's interview with The Washington Post.
So, if you want to be on the list, you should:
- Not be weak
- Be young
- Be conservative
- Be a strict constituionalist.
What you won't see on this list is the need for trial experience.
Matthew Spencer Petersen had been nominated for a U.S. District Court judgeship without it. However, that didn't go over well when he had been vetted. Petersen withdrew from consideration in order not to be a "distraction."
Incidentally, viewing that vetting via our televisions might have brought back that classic nightmare of showing up for a test we haven't studied for.
