Yet, a high-profile secular drama has been unfolding Inside the Beltway. It's scripted about emails.
That bit of theatre could end in the firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. And that could happen this very week. Keep checking the headlines on the Drudge Report.
Both the establishment media and social media have been filled with rumors about just that during the past few days.
Members of the media better be prepared to have their vacations days cancelled. This could be the biggest story since Donald Trump took office last January.
In Axios, Mike Allen reports:
"Officials of President Trump's transition team plan to ask Special Counsel Robert Mueller to return 'many tens of thousands' of transition emails they contend were unlawfully provided to him. But the prosecutor's office says emails being used in the investigation were properly obtained."
Among the accusations coming from the Trump side is that some of those emails were privileged. They want them to be returned.
Conflict is the heart of great theatre. That's the formula artists such as William Shakespeare leveraged. Now, that high-noon ethos is overtaking the D.C. scene, as well as those following each move. Law professors likely are already being lined up to comment if Mueller is fired.
