It is likely that more of the best and brightest undergraduates will consider applying to law school. Or, at least to the 13 which provide the option of submitting the GRE score in the application process. At one time, as many remember, the LSAT was mandatory.
Preparing to take the LSAT is a formidable undertaking. Essentially, through analysis and taking sample tests, you have to learn how the test-makers need you to think. That can require months. It did for me.
On the other hand, some of us walked in cold to the GRE and excelled.
On Abovethelaw.com, lawyer-journalist Kathryn Rubino has been following this developing story of the GRE option since the University of Arizona made the first move. Most recently, she reports, Brooklyn Law School and George Washington have joined the other 11 which already had taken that step.
There will be more. In a survey, Kaplan Test Prep found that 25% of law schools plan to accept the GRE.
A law degree is one which can be applied in myriad career paths. Actually practicing law is just one of them. In my field of public affairs, there have always been JDs on the regulatory end of advocacy communications.
