Under intense pressure from constituencies including Sandy Hook parents, NBC decided it had to blow up the original Megyn Kelly interview with Alex Jones. He contends that the Sandy Hook massacre of little children was a government hoax.
In its place, reports the New York Post, he won't be the only person interviewed. Also being interviewed will be parents of the children slaughtered at the elementary school. However, not all who had been invited by Kelly agreed to be part of the show. Some were still enraged that Jones was going to be giving such a powerful public forum for his point of view.
The hours and hours of the videotaped interview with Jones, many suspect, will be edited to position and package his opinion in a more negative light.
Of course, Jones isn't at all happy about that.
In addition, Kelly will ask tougher questions.
She didn't do that with her too-long interview with Erin Andrews. After being stalked, Andrews won her case in the court of law. Perhaps she was on "Sunday Night" to win back her reputation in the court of public opinion. That could be why Kelly only pitched soft balls.
Kelly had started off relatively strong the first night of her show which is pitted against "60 Minutes." She landed an exclusive interview with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. It went off well enough, although some assessed that he outfoxed her.
The second week, which featured the Andrews interview, was disappointing. On "60 Minutes," Anderson Cooper did a segment on brain hacking. That was an expose. It alleged that Silicon Valley configures its software for addiction. Yes, one might anticipate digital products targeted as the new tobacco.
This coming third week, of course, we will all tune in. That's the buzz.
If Kelly doesn't come out on top she could be on short time. Her long-legged blonde glam doesn't seem a great fit with old-line network NBC. She remains a relic of what Fox News founder Roger Ailes created as the winning on air formula for females. That time has passed.
Takeaway: It's the night of the long knives. Kelly could fail. There had been conjecture that she couldn't adjust to network, as opposed to cable.

It would be very principal and very hard to do the show with a very specific opinion. It's serious application for career success.
