Chadbourne & Parke no longer exists. Its former self has been merged into Norton Rose Fulbright.
In the U.S., the joint entity consists of about 1,000 lawyers, with approximately 300 in New York. Here are the details from lawyer-journalist Kathryn Rubino at Abovethelaw.com.
Prior to the merger, about 50 lawyers, both partners and associates, had left Chadbourne. Now, the issue is how many, from both firms, will be subject to involuntary terminations.
Mergers create redundancies. It may take a while for the new structure to figure out what kind of manpower is needed. But eventually, there will be layoffs of partners, associates and staff. That will be the first round. Then as needs become more clarified and as the business continues to change, there will be other reductions in force (RIF).
That's the way it goes. I know. In middle age I lost my middle management job when the acquiring corporation finally made its move. After the round of layoffs in which I was banished, there were more of them. Cuts became the new norm.
