I, too, grew up in Jersey City, second generation to immigrants. I am proud at how my grandparents assimilated into society. The worked hard for what they had and gave us a value system that is still with me and my children to this day. They came to this country facing economic uncertainty and took nothing for granted. There were no "safety nets" during the depression or at anytime, for that matter, to fall back on. People are stronger and more resourceful when they grow up dealing with adversity.

Just read your most fascinating piece regarding June Chu. I am 74 yrs young, still going strong and have the inherent edges in your piece. No formal education but still managed to send 3 kids to college and have a wonderful life traveling and doing business all over the world.
Thank you so much for the wonderful article.
May all you ever wish for be the least you ever receive.
