All life is processed through the court of public opinion.
Will it bring clergy and Simpson's family and friends to persuade him to live? Then put out a media release on that? Or will it embrace a legalistic approach and explain what are the rights of the prisoner and the responsibility of the institution.
The Mail Online reports that the motivation behind Simpson's initiative is to release his millions to his four children from two marriages. He is eligible for parole in 2017. Here is that article, which the Mail Online derives partly from coverage in The National Enquirer.
Students of Greek Tragedy and Shakespeare will not be surprised at Simpson's downward trajectory. The highly flawed are unable to reverse course. After Simpson was acquitted of a double murder, he could have had the internal paradigm shift which directed him to live a life of humility, conformity to social and moral norms and public service. He could have even run for minor public office.
Instead, he fit the bill for the tragic hero. He continued to buck the conventions of society and the law. His children will inherit money. But they could feel sadness that their father couldn't or wouldn't turn his life around.
