Like too many law firms, poet and music man Leonard Cohen was preoccupied with matters more important than money. Also, he trusted his manager Kelly Lynch who was supposedly protecting his wealth.
In his biography "I'm Your Man" by Sylvie Simmons, we read how Lynch embezzled more than $7 million from Cohen's account when he was meditating in a Buddhist monastery. That left him broke at around the age of 70.
Every week we read in the legal media how employees at this law firm or that lifted thousands or millions of dollars before they were detected. Obviously trust was misplaced. When will professionals come to view trust as nothing but a school-boyish notion.
