"Rakoff has a track record of imposing a sentence that is half what the government recommends." - BLOOMBERG LAW
Everyone is speculating what federal judge Jed Rakoff will hand down as a sentence to convicted insider trader Rajat Gupta on October 24th. The best insight might come from the BLOOMBERG LAW article which reports that Rakoff usually cuts the sentence in half from what the prosecution recommends for the white collar crime.
The prosecution has asked for a decade. Half of that is 5 years. My hunch is that's what it will be. Forget probation and a trip to Rowanda for Gupta. Public opinion could never absorb that.
