The clash of value systems can be brutal any time. Just look back to our teenage years when it was our developmental duty to take on our parents. But the conflict becomes a lot worse when the issue involves religion. The late Christopher Hitchens had great intellectual fun damning that sort of thing. But the reality is that it still holds many people hostage.
The religious beliefs of the parents of Grace Sung Eun Lee require that she live until she dies - naturally. As THE DAILY NEWS reports, Lee is suffering from brain cancer and is maintained with a breathing tube.
Both medical ethics and the law are on her side in her request to have the feeding tube removed. Then she could die. Her parents perceive that as suicide. Therefore they believe that she will not gain entrance to heaven.
Dying is not an easy task. Lee's parents are making it worse for her. Yet, societies have such difficulties juxtaposing religious beliefs with other kinds of values. This blog wishes Lee a peaceful death.
Thanks for your suggestion. I really appreciate that you took all this time to try and help us. Keep up the good work. Keep on taking action.
