Influential POLITICO puts the question out there if the conservative movement is nearing its end. A sign of what seems like its collapse is the infighting. Once a tightly cohesive bunch since the days Barry Goldwater ran for president, its media aren't supporting the presidential candidate and a mutation like the Tea Party can't be absorbed.
The last hurrah could be this presidential election. The best the party representing the movement could put up to run is a man who can't connect with the people or with policy. The debates will test out the latter.
What will replace conservatism? America, which had been founded by misfits from the old world, has an innate genius for creating and nurturing dissenting movements. That's our DNA.
Meanwhile the institutions which conservatism built such as Fox News will have to rebrand themselves as something else. That's where things could get very interesting.
