An interesting politico, Rhode Island freshman Congressman David Ciclline has proved he's also a survivor. He has won the primary, despite it's coming out how badly he managed Providence's finances when he was mayor.
As POLITICO reports, when his mismanagement and failure to report how dire things were came out he went on an apology tour. In the last lap of his campaign Patrick Kennedy, who had held that Congressional seat before Cicilline, rode in to the rescue.
In the general election Cicilline faces off against Brenda Doherty. What he has going for him in addition to his survival skills is that his district is heavily Democratic.
Ciclline was mayor when the second lead paint public nuisance trial was going on and even called in to testify. His performance on the stand was refreshing. When a lawyer asked what he thought someone had been thinking (ridiculous question of course) he answered that he had no idea what anyone else was thinking. And, we don't. Claiming we do is mere speculation, usually served up with a side dish of gossip.
