Wealthy Sheldon Adelson has been portrayed as one of the good guys. A week ago THE ECONOMIST mentioned him in its special section on Judaism. Adelson picks up the tab for young American Jews to visit Israel for 10 days and immerse themselves in their birthright. He's also a major donor to the GOP. Whether that is good or bad depends on your politics, of course. But democracy depends on different points of view and anyone who helps get out one of those is an asset.
Now, a cloud is over Adelson. The media, including NEW YORK Magazine, report that his business Las Vegaa Sands Corp is being investigated for alleged money laundering. Adelson himself is not a focus of the investigation, at least not at this time.
Guess all God's children, even the richest of the rich, have problems.
