In her first race for the U.S. Senate here in Connecticut, conservative Linda MaMahon lost for a lot of reasons.
A major one was that Democrat Richard Blumenthal, then state Attorney General, had a thick portfolio of people and causes he had helped. But her money, earned by founding and operating the World Wrestling entertainment empire, worked against her. Voters didn't know or perhaps just didn't care that Blumenthal's wife had wealth and that the couple lived in tony Greenwich.
McMahon's money might still be working against her as she runs again. POLITICO reports that she has softened her persona but still has a higher disapproval than approval rating.
When I did an article in the 2008 campaign for PAJAMAS MEDIA on that U.S. Senate race those I interviewed about McMahon's chances of winning told me flat out that nobody likes anyone with money. That could be even more true as the state struggles with unemployment.
