There is good news in the legal sector. The Dept of Labor reports that 1400 new jobs were created in July. Yes, celebrate that.
The reality, though, remains. It is more difficult to get those jobs and more difficult to hold onto them. The legal sector was always an up or out game. Now, in every function, from secretary to equity partner, it's simply more likely to find oneself without a job. That's just the way it is.
Once out it is often impossible to find work at comparable compensation. The big sadness about the purge of staff at Dewey & LeBoeuf was that secretaries would never make the money they had been making.
