As we recall, Mississippi lawyers made a lot of money chasing after BigTobacco. The tobacco industry caved. There was the huge settlement. Then Motley Rice went after BigLeadPaint, no longer being made but still in homes causing health problems. That didn't work out so hot.
But now there is BigFood. Stephanie Strom in THE NEW YORK TIMES reports that already there have been lawsuits filed. Much of the complaints focuses on labeling. That comes in several versions. There could be actual misleading labeling as when an ingredient is listed and in not contained in the product. Another kind could result from the ambiguity about what is "healthy" food and what isn't.
Just look around the mall and you realize how much support these lawsuits could have. The mall is filled with obese men, women, and children. They could already have or soon will have major health problems which add to the nation's healthcare bill.
Of course, this wave of litigation could be bigger than that against BigTobacco.
