With confidence, I bellied up to the scale. Sure enough I had lost six pounds. For a five-footer like myself that's the equivalent of a double-digit loss. How I did that was a self-imposed law of no consumption of food when I was in front of my laptop or fiddling with a handset or tablet. That was one piece.
The other piece was eating out more often with buddies which satisfies the social hunger of mankind. With everyone yapping, the focus becomes getting in a word, not getting in as much food as possible in a short time. Thanks to casual fast food dining as at Panera, the cost of not eating alone is probably lower than cooking and sitting by our lonesome losing all ability at portion control.
A town can get on the media map by adopting for 60 days these two mandates. Some of the roly poly residents could become celebrities. The mayor could eventually be off to the U.S. Senate. And the restaurants will flourish. The next president of the United States can make these the law of the land.
