We have to remember that media tycoon Conrad Black is in his own right an author as well as a book reviewer. So, it's predictable that he would use the media to focus on his legal ordeal. He's now out on $2 million bail as he appeals his fraud conviction. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on his and Enron's Jeff Skilling's behalf that there should have been limits on the honest services law used to convict them.
In Toronto's NATIONAL POST, Black points out how arbitrary the U.S. legal system is. He uses the example of convictions for marijuana can carry sentences as long as 20 year. That's despite the fact that, he contends, 42% of those in America have used marijuana. Black is a Canadian citizen. Black has published biographies of FDR and Nixon.
