On Craigslist, yeah right out there, in the Manhattan section, there are two help-wanted for marketing specialists for "prestigious" law firms. That's just in the past two days.
The compensation is usually six-figures. Here is one of the ads. Here is another.
Clearly, the closer we come to the point of sale, the more paid work is available. This is not just a result of the recent downturn or even the paradigm shifts in legal services. Actually, the demand for marketing/sales folks has always been high and constant. You didn't hear about it or pay attention to it because both lines of work were considered anything but prestigious. Well, prestigious has become code for "out of touch." The more prestigious the organization the more it will have to play catch-up in a marketplace in which client/customer loyalty is over.
