It's cute: to read the debate about what is, what could be, and what would never cut it as a resume enhancer. The cute comes from the youthful aspect of all that. After all, only youth has the emotional luxury to be in total angst about such matters.
Those not youthful do not. They are the Michael Gates Gill kind who publish books such as HOW STARBUCKS SAVED MY LIFE. Up in years, Gill, the son of that famous THE NEW YORKER editor, lost his executive position and his marriage. He had also gained one child out-of-wedlock. As he sat in self-pity in Starbucks, a perky worker bee employee asked him if he was there to apply for a job. The universe was with him that day, finally. He answered yes.
Ironically, the job did turn out to be a resume enhancer. Gill is now on the lecture circuit telling his story and charging a nice fee.
