Star of the Rhode Island lead paint public nuisance victory for his client Sherwin-Williams and current worldwide head of product liability for his firm Jones Day Micky Pohl did not attend a brandname law school. It was the University of Pittsburgh Law School. And in RI Pohl told me he commuted to it.
Also, if you check out the the pedigrees of some other attorneys at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Jones Day branch where Pohl hangs his hat between international travels, you will note that the managing partner Laura Ellsworth also matriculated at the University of Pittsburgh Law School. In addition, associate John Boyle attended Duquesne Law and it was in the evening while his day job was working for U.S. Representative Murtha. N.B. Jones Day has been one of the few law firms that has not laid off attorneys. Obviously, the shop is doing something right. Could it be recruiting those from private-label schools?
So, a good job in law does not always demand a JD from the the BigFoot law schools. In addition, getting into a top law firm does not mean staying in. The alumni from Harvard Law and more are being cut, right along with the rest of those who assumed credentials guaranteed not only a door opening but not shutting, abruptly.
