ACORN - Is its defense "a right-wing conspiracy?"

The beauty of the legal system in America is that a defense can be as aggressive and creative - even exotic - as dedicated attorneys can put together.  That's the job for Brian Mellor who's responsible for organizing the legal defense for the ACORN - Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.  Those in ACORN are being accused of voter registration fraud in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The FBI is also investigating the organization.

As Daphne Eviatar reports on this mess in THE AMERICAN LAWYER, it seems that one defense tactic is to imply a right-wing conspiracy against the liberal ACORN.  After all, it's the PA Republican Party which is seeking an injunction against ACORN.

Like the impeachment of Bill Clinton, who also claimed a right-wing conspiracy, this will be a wonderful show to watch.  In the front seats could be the chief executive officers from the paint companies who were vilified by ACORN's ragtag protesters during the height of the public nuisance litigation.  It's rumored that one Saturday the group even showed up at Sherwin-Williams CEO Chris Connor's house - holding the wrong signs.  The latter were for a different cause.
