Best and brightest of the JD Class of 2009 might look to Washington DC and Chicago for jobs, at least if they want to be part of the action, influence, power. No, the money might not be as good as in New York but it never is.
As Jason Horowitz opines in today's THE NEW YORK OBSERVER, the FOB - Friends of Barack - aren't Manhattan folk. Of course, there will some exceptions. Some who play the game Manhattan Style will be invited to be a FOB but mostly it's not not a game whose DNA is money. Sure, money is welcome. After all, BigLaw has been stuffing Obama's warchest full of BigMoney. But, this is not the GOP Show. Money is not unwelcome. However, it in itself will not get one in.
Of course, the fall of the financial sector in Manhattan adds to this former power base being left out in the cold. Those doing business the Manhattan Way - being seen lunching in pricey spots, riding in limos, being piggy heating McMansions - will become dark symbols of the previous Administration.
FOBs might be recruited from anyplace but New York.
