Not Again - OH AG Marc Dann Can't Catch A Break

Yes, again.  This time Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann is getting hammered in the media via yesterday's editorial in THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH about supposedly unethical campaign contributions. The title, no newsflash, is "On the other foot: Disdain for 'pay to play' during campaign returns to haunt attorney general."

Those contributions add up to $47,000 and they're from gambling interests Castle King LLC.  This blog had already reported on $7,500 of them which Dann received from Castle King when he was actually working on a state lawsuit against that company.  We now know there's plenty more from that company which wanted to legalize its Match 'Um machine as a game of skill.  And only recently has this information come to light. Dann ran on railing against "pay to play" politics.

As usual, there's more to this Dann story.  According to the editorial, when Castle King refused to disclose details about how the machines operated, Dann ended his support.  "Dann's people now say," the editorial points out, "that Castle King's departure empty-handed, despite the generous contribution to him, proves the attorney general can't be bought."  Cute.
