Washingtonienne Blog Privacy Case On Hold
Infamously cool blogger Jessica Cutler, former author of "Washingtonienne," has filed for bankruptcy. That puts the closely-watched case about privacy issues in electronic diaries on-hold.
As cyberspace watchers know, Cutler blogged about her multiple lovers. The popular blog "Wonkette" picked up the posts. The incestuous crowd inside the beltway easily figured out that one of the lovers was former aide to then-Senator Mike DeWine Robert Steinbuch. Steinbuch left his job and took one teaching. Cutler got fired and went on to a new professional path, which she describes on her website as "a published author who jumps out of cakes for money."
Although this privacy lawsuit launched by Steinbuch and now on hold probably worsened his bad publicity, it's been key in how we bloggers are reviewing our assumptions about what's private, in a legal and ethical sense, and what's not.
Like former "Wonkette" author Ana Marie Cox, Cutler is a cult hero in new media.
